The Vasa Museum

Meet the world-famous Vasa ship - the most well preserved 17th century ship in the world. On her maiden voyage she sailed for approximately 15 minutes before she sank in Stockholm’s harbor in 1628.
In 1956 the ship was discovered by a keen engineer who on his own initiative had searched for several years in Stockholm’s harbor for the ship.
The Vasa rested in the water for 333 years before she was finally salvaged and broke the water’s surface again, in 1961.
Today the Vasa Museum displays the only almost fully intact 17th-century ship that has ever been salvaged. More than 98 percent of the ship is original.
The Vasa Museum opened in 1990 and is the most visited museum in Scandinavia.

The Old Town (Gamla stan)

The Old Town is the historical center of the city and where the history of Stockholm began 800 years ago.
Learn about Stockholm's exciting past, stroll the narrow, medieval cobblestone streets and absorb the atmosphere of the historical surroundings.
The Old Town has much to offer: historical sites, as well as many small shops, cafes, art galleries and restaurants.
The walk can be extended with a visit at the Royal Palace, the Stockholm Cathedral (Storkyrkan) and the nearby islet Riddarholmen.

The City Hall

The City Hall (Stadshuset) is Stockholms most prominent landmark, a famous silhouette and a symbol of Stockholm itself. 


You are not allowed to visit the building without a tourguide. 

The City Hall took 12 years to build, between 1911-1923.

Visit the famous Blue Hall where the Nobel Banquet is held each year on December 10, after the Nobel laureates have attended the Nobel Prize Ceremony at the Concert Hall in the City. 
The Golden Hall is spectacular, decorated with 18 million pieces of gold mosaic.

The City Hall is more than a magnificent work of art and architecture, it is also the seat of the City Council of Stockholm.​​

Art in the Stockholm Metro 
 

The Stockholm Metro is said to be the world's longest art gallery in  the world.
More than 90 of 100 metro stations are decorated by professional artists, which has made public art an essential part of everyday life in Stockholm. Explore some of the most fascinating stations and discover colourful murals, sculptures, mosaics and reliefs created by more than 150 artists. 

Kungsträdgården, Stadion, Tekniska högskolan, Rådhuset and Solna Centrum are metro stations of particular interest.

Since 1957 artists have played a key role when new stations have been built. Over time, since the 1980s, the metro’s older stations – planned and built without any art – have since been spruced up by professional artists.
