Tours, walks and themes

A visit to the Vasa Museum, the Old Town and the City Hall is an absolute must. Apart from those tours, I do both regular and custom made tours and themes, for individuals and groups of varying sizes.

Stockholm has been my home since my teenage years, and I know all the museums and sights of the city. I can show you spectacular places, like the Royal Palace, the Stockholm Cathedral, the Historical Museum and the Viking exhibition/the Gold Room, the National Museum, the Nobel Museum, the Nordic Museum, Art in the Stockholm Metro, the Millesgården Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, Skansen and Waldemarsudde, allegedly Stockholm's most beautiful museum.

I can also give an introduction to Swedish traditions and ways of life, how Sweden is governed, social security and healthcare, education and gender equality.

The Vasa Museum

The Vasa warship took two years to build. On her maiden voyage she sailed for approximately twenty minutes before she sank in Stockholm’s harbor in 1628.

In 1956 the ship was discovered by a keen engineer who on his own initiative had searched for several years in Stockholm’s harbor for the ship.

The Vasa had rested in the water for 333 years before she was finally salvaged and broke the water’s surface, in 1961.

Today the Vasa Museum displays the only almost fully intact 17th-century ship that has ever been salvaged. More than 98 percent of the ship is original.

The Vasa Museum opened in 1990 and is the most visited museum in Scandinavia.

The Old Town

The Old Town is the historical center of the city and where the history of Stockholm began about one thousand years ago.

Learn about Stockholm's exciting past, stroll the narrow, medieval cobblestone streets and absorb the atmosphere of the historical surroundings.

The Old Town has much to offer: historical sites, as well as many small shops, cafes, art galleries and restaurants.
The walk can be extended with a visit at the Royal Palace, the Stockholm Cathedral or the islet Riddarholmen.

When you feel tired of walking,
I can can recommend you one of the many charming cafés where you can stop to have lunch or relax with a cup of coffee.

The City Hall

The City Hall is Stockholms most prominent landmark, a famous silhouette. and a symbol of Stockholm itself.    
You are not allowed to visit the building without a tourguide.

The City Hall took 12 years to build, between 1911-1923. 
Enjoy visiting the famous Blue Hall where the Nobel Banquet is held each year on December 10. The banquet is held here after the Nobel laureates have attended the Nobel Prize Ceremony at the Concert Hall in the City.
The Golden Hall is spectacular, decorated with 18 million beautiful small glass mosaics.

However, the City Hall is more than a magnificent work of art and architecture. It is also the seat of the City Council of Stockholm.

Women's History in Stockholm

Traditional history is mainly written by men about men's activities in the public sphere. Women are usually excluded and, if mentioned, they are portrayed in stereotypical roles as mothers or wives.

Today women are more often telling their own story, like in the sculpture "Come as you are!" by Astrid Göransson, which portrays the first five women at the Swedish Parliament, carried forward by two young women from our time, to show that the struggle for democracy and equality continues into the future.

The tour gives some remarkable Stockholm women a voice, as it highlights their different living conditions, struggles, hopes and dreams for the future.

Art in the Stockholm metro - the longest Art Exhibition in the World

The Stockholm metro system is said to be the world's longest art exhibit - 110 kilometers long. More than 90 of 100 metro stations are decorated with sculptures, mosaics, paintings, installations and reliefs by more than 150 artists.

Kungsträdgården, Stadion, Tekniska högskolan, Rådhuset and Solna Centrum are metro stations of particular interest.

Since 1957 artists have played a key role when new stations have been built. And over time, since the 1980s, the metro’s older stations – planned and built without any art – have since been spruced up with beautiful statues, murals, and installations.

Vikings -
Myth and Archaeology

The mythical Vikings were seafaring people, originally from present-day Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. From 750 to 1100 they settled and traded, raided and pirated, throughout parts of Europe.

New archaeological discoveries and research have changed our view of life in Scandinavia a thousand years ago, new facts which are exciting to learn about.

The tour includes a visit to the large exhibition "The Viking World", with 2.500 original objects, and the magnificent Gold Room at the Historical Museum.

A short walk will take us to The Viking Museum on Djurgården.
There we encounter a world of mythology and adventure and explore Viking Age people’s way of life through movies, sound effects, artifacts, stories and historical environments.
